The Second Annual Magic of Kids Gala, planned and sponsored again by Qualigence and Fifth Third Bank for the benefit of Pathway Family Center, was held on October 14th, 2008.  Pathway provides a long-term substance abuse treatment program for teenage children. The 2008 event raised close to $60,000 ~ about 20% more than it's first year.  Funds raised are utilized as scholarships to support families with teens in need of treatment.

Supporting the community is a priority at Qualigence. Since the company was founded in 1999, Qualigence has partnered with two different non-profit organizations with the common objective being “to make a difference”. For that reason, we carefully select non-profit organizations that can best benefit from our expertise and our team contributions. Our philanthropy is more than just monetary, Qualigence employees are dedicated and committed to the cause by volunteering to work events, workshops, and community projects when needed.

The organizations that Qualigence has supported are as follows:

PATHWAY FAMILY CENTER

Pathway Family Center is a long-term substance abuse treatment center for adolescents. The program, which ranges from 9 to 14 months depending on the degree of need, has served hundreds of families since the organization was founded in 1993 by Terri Nissley. Among the services offered are drug screening, substance abuse assessments and referrals, out-patient services, and a unique long-term treatment program that has approximately a 95% success rate. The goal of Pathway is to rehabilitate teenage kids that have been victims of substance abuse, restore hope, and give them positive direction in life after they graduate.

Qualigence has contributed to the area of positive direction by administering quarterly workshops to the teens in the final stage(s) of the program. The workshops consist of providing assistance in creating a resume, choosing colleges, filling out college applications, and ultimately feeling excited about their futures.

Qualigence also planned and managed an annual fundraising/auction event called “The Magic of Kids”. The first year, October of 2007, the event raised close to $40,000. Year two, October of 2008, it raised $55,000. Funds raised are used to fund scholarships for those families in need of financial support.

MOTOR CITY BLIGHT BUSTERS

The Motor City Blightbusters is a small non-profit organization located in southwest Detroit. The mission of the organization is to eliminate blight and restore pride in area neighborhoods surrounding the organization. The organization utilizes the teams of organizations like Qualigence to volunteer in ridding neighborhoods of abandoned homes that attract criminal activity, painting murals on side walls of stores and buildings, planting flowers and cleaning litter from area parks, as well as other community projects.

John George, President of the organization, has been recognized locally and nationally for his efforts to “keep the neighborhoods clean.” Qualigence employees have volunteered for several events including the painting of the Martin Luther King mural, the demolition of a crack house, and remodeling an empty, donated home which was given away to a deserving family at the 2005 Motor City Bowl at Detroit’s Ford Field. All events received local or national news coverage.
