Qualigence understands the importance of giving back to the community, and through the years we have made it a priority to do so. Our philanthropy is more than just monetary; we make sure to choose non-profit organizations that can benefit from our expertise as well
as our time and dedication.
Currently, we have a partnership with Pathway Family Center, and in the past we have worked with the Motor City Blight Busters.
In addition, the Qualigence staff participates in the Adopt-A-Family every year to bring joy to a family in need during the holiday season.
PATHWAY FAMILY CENTER
Qualigence formed a partnership with Pathway Family Center in September of 2006. Pathway Family Center, with offices in Southfield, MI; Milford, OH; and Indianapolis, IN;
is a long-term substance abuse treatment center for adolescents, and has been serving families since 1993. They provide drug screening, substance abuse assessment and referral, out-patient services, and a unique long-term treatment program. Most importantly, they are a family-centered facility that focuses on teaching adolescents coping strategies, life skills, and strengthening both individual and family relationships.
The partnership between Qualigence and Pathway Family Center is far from just financial. Qualigence added a new program to the Pathway curriculum called “Plan Your Path,” which is a career and college preparation workshop series that is facilitated each quarter for students in their final treatment stages at Pathway. Workshops are facilitated at both
the Southfield and Cincinnati Pathway offices. Workshop participants are typically juniors
and seniors in high school. “We treat kids whose hopes for college and a career have
gone by the wayside,”said Barb Towner, Marketing Director of the Southfield, MI location.
“Our goal is to restore hope and give them positive direction after they
graduate from Pathway.”
The first workshop is an introductory workshop geared towards getting students to think about their future after Pathway, whether it’s higher education, a job, or the military. Tips on how to write a resume are discussed, and each student is asked to return to the second workshop with a resume of their own, along with three job listings that they might be interested in applying for.
The second workshop is more of a working session that covers interviewing tips, how
to dress for success, and how to write an effective cover letter. Each student is given a manual to keep for reference that includes college applications, sample resumes and cover letters, how to apply for financial aid, and the best way to prepare for the transition between community college and a University. Qualigence employees are able to sit one-on-one with the students to help go over any questions they have and share their own personal experiences.
Qualigence employees thoroughly enjoy volunteering their time to the Pathway workshops. They are able to effectively share their expertise and experiences about how to start the college and career processes. Everyone is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the community, which is an important reason why President and CEO of Qualigence, Steve Lowisz, chose Pathway for the partnership. “Pathway Family Center is the perfect choice for Qualigence to partner with. Our intent was to identify a non-profit where our expertise would compliment their existing services. Community involvement is an important initiative at Qualigence and our employees are equally committed to volunteering their time, support, and expertise to graduating clients of Pathway.” Steve is very committed to the Pathway team and their mission. He is an active board member for both their Detroit and Cincinnati boards, and their national board as well.
In additional to the administration of the “Plan your Path” program, Qualigence executives are also active in creating fund-raising events and other opportunities to gain awareness
of Pathway and the increasing drug abuse among teens.

MOTOR CITY BLIGHT BUSTERS
In 2004, we identified a non-profit organization that has been making a positive impact
in the Detroit Community for the past 18 years. The Motor City Blight Busters is an
organization dedicated to improving the community through beautifying neglected
neighborhoods and ridding them of abandoned homes that attract criminal activity.
It also provides educational and affordable housing options to residents. Led by John George, this organization has been recognized locally and nationally for its continuous efforts and has grown to become a “role model” for other community organizations to follow throughout the entire nation.
The partnership between Qualigence and The Motor City Blight Busters began with the creation of the Blight Buster Kidz program. This program invites kids to be involved in
their communities through art. The program includes summer art classes for kids, the organization of mural painting projects on buildings throughout the community, and the Summer in the City program that brings urban and suburban teens together to work on various community clean-up projects.
Qualigence employees have worked at several events including the painting of the
Martin Luther King mural; the demolition of a crack house; a visit from Alfonso Jackson, Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD);
and the remodeling of an empty, donated home which was given away to a deserving family at the 2005 Motor City Bowl at Detroit’s Ford Field. All events received local or
national news coverage.
Steve’s commitment speaks loudly as he has dedicated a large portion of his staff to participate in these efforts during business hours. In addition to employee volunteers, Qualigence has provided financial support and executive management and oversight
for several Blight Buster events and projects. According to Steve, “Qualigence is
dedicated to its clients and the communities in which we live. Community involvement
will always remain an important initiative at Qualigence.”
