Qualigence Cares
Community involvement is an important initiative at Qualigence. After a lengthy review process, Qualigence selected Pathway Family Center as the organization that Qualigence would partner with and provide support to their mission. The objective of the selection process was to identify a non-profit organization that would benefit by the industry and experience in which Qualigence operates.
Pathway Family Center, with offices in Southfield, MI; Milford, OH; and Indianapolis, IN, is a substance abuse treatment center for adolescents, and has been serving families since 1993. They provide drug screening, substance abuse assessment and referral, out-patient services, and a unique long-term treatment program. Most importantly, they are a family centered facility that focuses on teaching adolescents coping strategies, life skills, and strengthening both individual and family relationships.
The partnership between Qualigence and Pathway Family Center is far from just financial. Qualigence added a new program to the Pathway curriculum called “Plan Your Path,” which are career and college preparation workshops that are taught to junior and senior high school students in their final stages of the program. Each quarter, the Livonia office and our Cincinnati office facilitate two workshops for the students at their Michigan and Ohio locations. The workshops are designed for students in their final stages of treatment as they begin thinking about their future and leading productive lives. “We treat kids for whom most hopes of college and careers have gone by the wayside,” said Barb Towner, marketing director of the Southfield, MI location. “We’ve been able to restore hope.”
The first workshop is an introductory workshop geared towards getting students to think about their future after Pathway, whether it be higher education, a job, or the military. Tips on how to write a resume are discussed, and each student is asked to return to the second workshop with a resume of their own.
The second workshop is more of a working session that covers topics like interviewing tips, how to dress for success, how to write an effective cover letter, and college preparation. Each student is given a manual to keep for reference that includes college applications, sample resumes and cover letters, how to apply for financial aid, and the best way to prepare for the transition between community college and a University. Qualigence employees are able to sit one-on-one with the students to help go over any questions they have and share their own personal experiences.
Qualigence employees love volunteering their time to the Pathway workshops. They are able to affectively share their expertise and experiences about how to start the college and career processes. Everyone is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the community, which is an important reason why President and CEO of Qualigence, Steve Lowisz, chose Pathway for the partnership. “Pathway Family Center is the perfect choice for Qualigence to partner with. Our intent was to identify a non-profit where our expertise would compliment their existing services. Community involvement is an important initiative at Qualigence and our employees are equally committed to volunteering their time, support, and expertise to graduating clients of Pathway.”
Unfortunately, many teens are affected by substance abuse in today’s world. Pathway Family Center is a great organization to share with your employer in an effort to make employees aware of this type of treatment program.
